AHOSKIE, NC – Joan Harrell Holland, age 75, passed away on April 8, 2019 at Vidant Medical Center of Greenville, NC.

Joan was born on February 16, 1944 to Joseph Edward Harrell and Idell Farmer Harrell in Ahoskie, NC. Joan was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She enjoyed waking in the morning and opening her blinds to watch the beauty of nature. Her favorite pastime was watching the birds and the children playing. Joan was a huge food critic, always voicing her opinion about where you should go to eat. She was constantly worried about others, making sure they had what they needed at all times. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Joan will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph “Joe” Edward Harrell, Jr.; and her infant daughter, Melissa Rose Munford.

Left to cherish Joan’s memory are her, son, Chuck Munford and wife Ann Marie of Ahoskie, NC; daughter, Kimberly P. Irvine of Yorktown, VA; two granddaughters, Cassie Powell and fiancé Mark of Yorktown, VA, and Paige Irvine of Yorktown, VA; three grandsons, Trent, Conner, and CJ Munford, all of Ahoskie; four sisters, Jane Ellen Harrell Brake and husband Robert, Jewel Harrell Newsome and husband Charlie, Joy Harrell and husband Drap, and Jacqueline Gay Harrell-Eason and husband Johnny; brother, Jerry Harrell and wife Belinda; and daughter-in-law, Billie Harrell, all of Ahoskie; nieces, Tina Copeland and partner Laura, Gina Smith and husband Dennis, Billie Joe Harrell and husband Michael, Bobbie Joe Lindsey, Michelle Myers and husband Kimsey, Jennah Idell Harrell, Renee’ Eason, and Sebrina Eason; nephews, Joe Harrell, III and wife Rochelle, Ed Evans IV and wife Becky, Jason Harrell and wife Alexis, Justin Harrell, Jacob Harrell and wife Amber, Joseph Harrell, Jarrett Harrell, Johnny Eason, II, and Jeremy Eason; along with a host of great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC and other times at the home of her son, Chuck.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2019, at 11:00 am at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, with Pastor Greg Hurdle officiating. Burial will follow at Southampton Memorial Park in Franklin, Va.
