MURFREESBORO, NC – On Tuesday, March 5, 2019, just six days shy of being one century old, Claud Marion King peacefully slipped away from his earthly home. Claud was born in Dallas, Texas on March 11, 1919. He was a loving husband to his wife of 79 years, Bates Stephenson King.

Claud was a faithful follower of God who attended Mt. Tabor Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher, RA leader, and Deacon for many years. As a dedicated Navy Chief Petty Officer for 20 years, Claud fought in the Pacific during World War Two. He later worked as an electrician for 25 years at Union Camp in Franklin, Virginia. Claud was an extraordinary example of a hardworking, dedicated, God fearing man who loved his wife and family unconditionally.

Claud was predeceased by his mother and father, Claude and Mary Alma, and three siblings.

Five generations are left behind to carry out the legacy of this wonderful man. He is survived by his wife, Bates; his only daughter, Betty (Ted); two granddaughters, Cindy (Todd) and Betty Jo (Jeffery); four great-grandchildren, Clay, Andrew (Amanda), Mary Catherine (Cullen), and Emily; as well as three great-great-grandchildren, Blake, Harper, and Bennett.

Funeral arrangements have been made for Saturday, March 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church with visitation to follow in the Fellowship Hall. There will be a private burial.
