Robert W. Tayloe

WILMINGTON, NC – Robert William “Bob” Tayloe, 86, of Wilmington NC passed away January 30, 2019 at his home.

He was born November 29, 1932 in Powellsville, NC (Bertie County). He was the second son of the late Walter Sidney “Sid” Tayloe. Sr. and Lena Moore Rawls Tayloe.

Bob attended Powellsville Elementary School and graduated from Ahoskie High School with honors. He graduated from NC State University in 1954 with a BS in Agricultural Engineering. He was a member of Sigma Pi Fraternity and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Army Corp of Engineers with the NC State ROTC program.

After serving in the US Army, Bob was a sales engineer with Tidewater Supply Company’s Machinery and Machine Tool Division in Norfolk Virginia. He applied and sold machinery to industrial accounts in eastern NC and was transferred to Wilmington NC in 1960. After 21 years with Tidewater Supply, he helped create Tencarva Machinery Company where he worked for 19 years and served as a Vice President.

Even with extensive work travel, Bob was active in local civic activities. He was a member of the Wilmington Jaycees, the Wilmington Sertoma Club, Packmaster of Cub Pack 226, the Cape Fear Ski & Outing Club, and BPO Elks 532. He was a member of Wrightsville United Methodist Church and held positions from Sunday School teacher to lay leader and was Chairman of the board-council.

Bob was preceded in death by his brother Sid Tayloe, Jr. and sister, Penny Tayloe Thompson.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 63 years, Theresa Raynor Tayloe of the home; his sons, Rob Tayloe, Jr. and his wife Susan Overman Tayloe of Greensboro, NC, and David Tayloe and his wife Sherri Davis Tayloe of Rock Hill, SC; his daughter, Susan Tayloe of Wilmington, NC; and his grandson, Matthew Tayloe of Columbia, SC. He also leaves many cousins, nephews, and nieces.

The funeral service was held Monday, February 4 at Wrightsville United Methodist Church. Interment was at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
