Peggy R. Jones

COLERAIN, NC – Peggy Reeves Jones, age 82, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2019 at the Edenton House of Edenton, NC.

Mrs. Jones was born on August 16, 1936 to John Gaston and Beulah Ellis Reeves in Greenville, NC. A native of Pitt County, Peggy lived in Colerain most of her life. She married to the love of her life, Thomas Melvin Jones, on October 9, 1955, spending 62 years together. Peggy was an active member of Mars Hill Baptist Church serving as choir director for several years. She retired as Register of Deeds for Bertie County after serving Bertie County for over 30 years. Peggy enjoyed traveling with her late husband and very good friends, Dale and Liz Burkett, and Inez Roberson. She loved shopping, going out to lunch, sewing, and reading. Peggy spent many of her retirement years volunteering with hospice and quilting, in which she enjoyed very much. Most everyone in the family has one of her special quilts. She was a very special lady that will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Melvin Jones; and her sister, Janice Boyette.

Peggy is survived by two sisters-in-law, Jean Leggett and Joyce Dilbeck, both of Colerain, NC; brother-in-law, Carroll Jones of Ahoskie, NC; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Channan Brinkley officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
