Edwards and Vaughan named to Vidant RCH Directors’ Council

AHOSKIE – Dr. Beverly Edwards and Juan E. Vaughan, II, of Ahoskie, have been named to the Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital’s Directors’ Council.

“We are pleased to welcome two outstanding new directors to our hospital directors’ council,” states Judy Bruno, VRCH president. “They both bring much knowledge and community experience to our council and I look forward to working with them to improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve.”

Dr. Edwards is a local pediatrician who has served the community for many years. She was born and raised in Raleigh, the child of parents who encouraged scholastic and cultural advancement. She graduated from ECU School of Medicine in 1988 (Brody School of Medicine), and completed her residency program in Pediatrics at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA, in 1991.

In private practice in Ahoskie, she is the owner and sole physician at Ahoskie Pediatrics where she serves the children and families of the four-county area of Hertford, Bertie, Northampton and Gates, and has maintained certification by the American Board of Pediatrics for her entire 27 year career.

Dr. Edwards is a past member of the Hertford-Gates Board of Health and currently serves on the Board of Managers for Community Care Physician Network. She is also a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the North Carolina Pediatric Society.

She is married to Larry Edwards and they have three adult children and one grandchild. Dr. Edwards is a member of St. Charles of Borromeo Catholic Church where she taught Sunday school and summer bible school. Her hobbies include music, travel and reading.

Juan E. Vaughan, II was reared and educated in Hertford County. He graduated from Hertford County High School in June 2002. Upon graduation he matriculated to North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering. Vaughan later earned a Master of Science Degree in Mathematics with a concentration in Community College Teaching from Elizabeth City State University.

Vaughan has been employed for two years with Hertford County as Assistant County Manager. Prior to this appointment, Vaughan was employed for eight years at Roanoke-Chowan Community College (R-CCC) as the Data and Compliance Coordinator, Mathematics Instructor, and Lead Faculty to the Mathematics, English, and Physical Education & Health Departments. Additionally, Vaughan is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and serves as a board member of Communities in Schools North Carolina in Hertford County.

Vaughan is married to the former Austin P. Hill of Lewiston-Woodville. The couple have one daughter, Adé Alexandra.

The Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital Directors’ Council meets five times a year and serves as the advisory council for the hospital, which is governed by the Vidant Community Hospital Board. Members are appointed by the president of the hospital to serve for a three-year term. Other current directors include Chairperson David Lingle, MD, Tim Frei, MD, Linda Hobbs, Melanie Storey, Bill Mitchell, and John Dilustro.
