Roseburg Resources, in the interest of supporting the communities in the area of its new ownership, has provided five $1,000 grants to local fire departments to improve their capabilities.

The 2018 recipients were Union, Harrellsville, Eure, Como, and Arcola. Pictured (from top to bottom) is the presentation of the check to Union VFD was made by Phil Adams, Director of Roseburg Resources, and Pete Hancock, Roanoke Timberlands Manager. Union VFD members in the photo are Chris Smith, Michael Hughes, Tyler Hughes, Kyle Simons, and Hunter Smith.

They intend to use its grant funds to put the surplus 1988 engine into service.  This will enhance its ability to protect the growing residential properties in its service area. The Harrellsville VFD and Como VFD checks were presented by Tara Fowler, grant coordinator for Roseburg.

The members present for Harrellsville were Jerry Hunnicutt, Lisa Hunnicutt, Chris Blackburn, Elizabeth Grimes, Lloyd Williams, Mike Lear, David Taylor, Chris Jones, Grant Pruitt, and Ed Bonney. Como’s members in attendance were Andrew Jenkins, Toby Turner, Jason Futrelle, Joe Jernigan, John Eure, Pam Turner, Jake Eure, Timmy Davis, Emily Owens, and Joe Hale.

The presentation to the Eure VFD required meeting Chief Ed Story and Assistant Chief Billy Felton in the field. Harrellsville, Eure, Como, and Arcola departments plan to use their grants to purchase equipment to improve their capabilities to serve their communities.

Roseburg gratefully acknowledges these volunteer fire departments as essential members of their communities and looks forward to future support of their efforts to protect the lives and property in the area.
