AULANDER, NC – Elva Dean Conner Burden, age 74, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Vidant Medical Center of Greenville, NC.

Mrs. Burden was born on October 28, 1944, one of eight children born to Vernon C. and Carrie Dempsey Conner in Bertie County, NC. Elva Dean was a registered nurse for Hertford County Health Department for many years until her retirement. She loved her family and spent many hours at a ball field watching her children and grandchildren play. Elva was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt that will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, J C, Cohen, Linwood, and William Conner, and sisters, Betty Mizelle, and Barbara Jean Taylor.

Elva Dean is survived by her husband Jack; two sons, Chris Burden and friend Scarlett Lassiter of Aulander, and Michael Burden and wife Jenny of Windsor; one sister, Marilyn Daniels and husband Jimmy of Ahoskie; three grandsons, Justin Burden and wife Rebecca of Ahoskie, Tyler Burden of Ahoskie, and Jarrett Burden of Windsor; three granddaughters, Lauren Burden, Alicen Eubanks, and Jenna Jones, all of Windsor; two great-grandsons, Eli, and Parker Burden; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday, December 30, 2018 from 7:00 until 8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC and other times at the home of son, Chris Burden.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held Monday, December 31, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, with Pastor Greg Hurdle officiating. Burial will follow in Aulander Cemetery.
