AHOSKIE – Citi Trends, located in Newmarket Shopping Center, was robbed at gunpoint tonight (Tuesday).

Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh told the R-C News-Herald that two male suspects are involved in the heist.

He said the duo – each wearing dark clothing with their faces covered – entered the store at 8 p.m. Both suspects, he said, brandished a firearm.

“They took an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register and fled,” Fitzhugh stated.

He added there were customers in the store at the time of the robbery. There are no reported injuries.

Fitzhugh said it is believed the suspects left the scene in a vehicle.

“If anyone was in that area, in the vicinity of the shopping center or along Memorial Drive or Jersey Street, at that time and witnessed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, we would like to hear from you,” Fitzhugh said.

APD Detective Justin Farmer is investigating the armed robbery.

Those with information are encouraged to immediately contact the Hertford County E-911 Communications Center at 252-358-0232.
