More details shared in Sunday murder

WINTON – Hertford County Sheriff’ Dexter Hayes has released a more detailed description of a man found shot to death Sunday morning at the Harrellsville boat landing.

Hayes said the individual is a black male, approximately 20-to-25 years of age, and weighs between 180-to-190 pounds. The victim’s height is listed at 5’-8” to 5’-10” with short hair and facial hair on both sides of his face.

The victim was further described as wearing a Mossy Oak camouflage zip-up jacket, with a black shirt underneath bearing a JROTC commemorative logo on the front. He was also wearing jogging pants, navy blue in color, with a white stripe down the legs, and black jogging shorts underneath. The victim was also found wearing black Nike shoes with gray soles.

Hayes said the individual was shot one time. He termed the case as a homicide.

“His identity is unknown at this point; there was no identification found on his person,” Hayes told the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald.

The Sheriff encouraged those who have experienced difficulty in contacting a family member or friend over the past 24-to-48 hours, or if they know someone fitting the aforementioned description to contact his office at 252-358-7800 or call the Hertford County E-911 Communications Center at 252-358-0232 and ask to speak to him or HCSO Lt.
