New book addresses school bullying

AULANDER – A local author with an extensive background in elementary education has authored a book that takes a hard look at school bullying.

“One Voice” by Sylvia Walton is a heart-stirring fiction novel about the life of a middle school student, Simone, who is excited about beginning 8th grade at Hammond Middle School. Yet, her 8th grade year will be one of her hardest due to the horror of bullying.

In One Voice, the reader will also get a sneak peek into the life of the student who bullies and understand what causes the student to bully others.

Walton is a poet, inspirational blogger for women, and playwright. She is currently a counselor in the Bertie County Schools. Her professional background has consisted of serving as a mental health case manager, school social worker, and school counselor.

She will conduct a book signing at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13 at the Sallie Harrell Jenkins Memorial Library, located at 302 Broad Street in Aulander.
