MECHANICSVILLE, VA – James R. Joyner, “Dick”, 82, of Mechanicsville, VA, born and raised in Kelford, NC, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 9, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his sons, James R. “Ricky” Joyner, Jr. and Herbert “Bert” Joyner; his mother, Mildred Modlin Joyner; his father, Richard Thomas Joyner; and a brother, Robert Gene Joyner.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Charlsie Stephenson Joyner; son, Donald Keith Joyner; daughters, Cheryl Logan (Tom) and Loretta Joyner (Roy); 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; siblings, Carolyn Northcott and Donald R. Joyner; special cousin, Cindy Wade; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dick retired with 23 years of service in the US Air Force and spent 20 additional years with the DEA. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener who loved his family.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2018 at Roxobel-Kelford Cemetery in Bertie County, NC.
