Gates County – 33

Southside – 3

At Easons Crossroad, Gates County raised their early season record to a perfect 3-0 as Red Barons flew past visiting Southside, 33-3.

Quarterback Jawan Riddick led the Barons by throwing for two scores and running for another. Riddick finished his night with 140 passing yards and 57 on the ground.

Ron Olsen added 101 rushing yards for Gates County while Caleb Brickhouse drilled a 42-yard field goal.

Northeast-Hobgood – 58

Bethel Christian – 34

On the road in Kinston, Northeast-Hobgood trailed 14-0 midway the first quarter, but roared back to post a 58-34 victory in a NCISAA 8-man football game.

NEA-Hobgood, the defending Class 1A state champions, led 36-20 at halftime. They raised their season record to 2-0 with the win.

Edenton – 50

Bertie – 24

In Edenton, the Aces rode the legs of Mitjonta Stanley, who rushed for 333 yards and five touchdowns, to lead his team to a 50-24 non-conference victory.

Bertie, who trailed by two touchdowns early in the game, did make things interesting by taking the kick-off to open the second half and launching a drive capped by a 27 yard TD run by Chris Cooper. That trimmed Bertie’s deficit to 30-24.

On the first snap of Edenton’s ensuing possession, Stanley answered with a 51-yard scoring run. He added another TD later in the third period to help seal Bertie’s fate.

Edenton improved to 4-0 overall while Bertie fell to 1-2.
