MURFREESBORO, NC – Virginia Dare Britt, age 76 of Murfreesboro, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2018 at her home in Murfreesboro, NC.

She was born on March 26, 1942 to the late James and Mable Garris. Virginia taught bible school for thirty-five years. She was a devoted Christian and a lifelong member of Meherrin Baptist Church in Murfreesboro.

Virginia loved children and maintained a small daycare in her home where she would prepare the kids for kindergarten. She worked as a nursing aid at Roanoke Chowan Hospital for approximately twelve years. Virginia loved flowers, animals and especially cats. She had a great sense of humor and will greatly missed by all that knew her.

Other than her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her brother, J.B. Garris, Jr.

Virginia is survived by her husband Johnny “Jack” Britt; son, Jamie Edwards and his wife Theresa of Murfreesboro; daughter, Julie Marie Brickhouse and her husband Buddy of Kill Devil Hills; granddaughter, Jenny Edwards of Kill Devil Hills; two grandsons, Jacob Edward and Joshua Robert Brickhouse, both of Kill Devil Hills; great-granddaughter, Noah Grace Brickhouse of Kill Devil Hills; two stepdaughters, Sherri Harmon of Windsor and Mitzi Hughes of Merry Hill; five step grandsons, Justin and Brandon Martin of Merry Hill, Michael Harmon of Windsor, Chris Parker of Aulander, and James Randel Smith of Wilmington; and step granddaughter, Amanda Rae Smith of Laurinburg.

The family will receive friends on August 25, 2018 from 7:00-8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Memorial Chapel of Murfreesboro.

A celebration of life service will be conducted on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Meherrin Baptist Church of Murfreesboro, with the Rev John Porter officiating. Burial will follow at the Meherrin Baptist Church Cemetery.
