N’hamp native dies in Garner

GARNER – A native of Northampton County was killed here early Monday morning while attempting to cross U.S. Highway 401 in Garner.

According to a story posted on wral.com, Parker Robert Stancil, age 60 of Raleigh, was struck by a 2017 Buick Encore operated by Cheryl Tilley, 64, of Raleigh. Garner Police said she remained at the scene until law enforcement officers arrived.

The accident occurred at around 5:15 a.m. on the busy road. Both the northbound and southbound lanes were closed for over three hours while law enforcement conducted their investigation.

Police said no charges have been filed so far in connection with the incident.

It was not immediately clear if Stancil was in a cross walk when the accident occurred.

Funeral services for Stancil will be held at 12 noon on Sunday (Aug. 26) in the Rich Square Chapel of Wilder’s Funeral Home, who is handling the arrangements.
