ROANOKE RAPIDS – A Murfreesboro man was charged last week in a June 4 shooting outside of Roanoke Rapids.

Kvon Montrell Lassiter, 23, faces a count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, according to the state court calendar.

Chief Deputy Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement in June the deputies responded to a shooting call on Victory Lane where the victim was shot.

The victim was injured from a single gunshot wound and taken for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The victim has since been listed in good condition.

Hall said motive behind the shooting was not clear.

Detective S.A. Bryant obtained warrants on Lassiter, who was arrested by the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office. He was jailed on $20,000 secured bond at the Hertford County Jail in Winton.

Lassiter had also been charged previously by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office on an assortment of other charges, the Roanoke Rapids Police Department, which arrested him, reported earlier this month.

In that case, Lassiter was arrested following a traffic stop on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway at Interstate 95 in the early morning hours of Aug. 3. That arrest was for outstanding warrants based on an investigation by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Lassiter was served warrants for burglary, larceny after breaking and entering, common law robbery, injury to property, assault on a female, assault and possession of stolen goods. He was also charged for having no operators license and failure to stop for a red light or stop sign.

He received a $10,000 bond and August 15 court date.
