MURFREESBORO – A local man with several outstanding charges in both Hertford and Bertie counties was arrested here Aug. 1.
Hertford County Sheriff Dexter Hayes said that 38-year-old Gregory J. Bardlavens of North Wynn Street, Murfreesboro, was taken into custody at his residence shortly after 9 a.m.
The Sheriff said the arrest was made after his deputies – joined by officers with the Murfreesboro Police Department and agents with the Down East Drug Task Force – executed a search warrant at Bardlavens’ residence.
“Upon making entry into the residence, the subject, Mr. Bardlavens, was found hiding under a bed,” Hayes said. “He was taken into custody without incident for outstanding orders of arrest in Hertford and Bertie counties.”
An ensuing search of the residence produced 19 bags of heroin, found stored inside a hidden compartment of a table decoration in the living room.
A set of digital scales and a .22 caliber handgun magazine, loaded with bullets, were found in the master bedroom.
In addition to the outstanding orders of arrest, Bardlavens was charged with three felony counts each of possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin, and maintaining a dwelling to store controlled substances.
He was also charged with being a habitual felon, based on previous arrests and convictions on felony drug related charges in April of 1998, and January of 2007.
Bardlavens also served a nine-month term in jail for a July 1999 case where he was convicted of felonious attempted assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
On his latest charges, Bardlavens was jailed under a $178,000 bond. He made his initial court appearance on Aug. 3 to answer those charges.
