AHOSKIE – The Ahoskie Police Department is continuing its investigation into a June 23 shooting that left a local man dead.

The only new information in the case is that the victim, 29-year-old Reco Larone Lewis, was shot multiple times, according to the results of the autopsy.

In an initial press release sent later on the day of the shooting, Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh said the Hertford County E-911 Communications Center received a call referencing shots fired at approximately 4:35 a.m. on June 23.

Upon the arrival of the first Ahoskie Police units to Kennedy Court, located near the Parker Ave. Apartments, they located an unresponsive male lying face down in the grass in front of Apartment 8. He was later identified as Lewis, who reportedly resided at Apartment 9.

Fitzhugh said additional APD officers and detectives were summoned to the scene, as were Hertford County Sheriff’s deputies. The North Carolina SBI was called to assist with the crime scene investigation.

“The Ahoskie Police Department, along with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, have been working diligently to solve the case,” Fitzhugh said. “We are asking the community of Ahoskie and the citizens of Kennedy Court to come forward and assist the police. If you have any information regarding the death of Mr. Lewis, or witnessed the shooting, please come forward and help bring justice to the Lewis family.”

The Ahoskie Police Department can be reached at 252-332-5011, Monday-Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm. The Hertford County Telecommunications line can be contacted 24/7, at 252-358-0231.
