AULANDER, NC – Rachel Harrell Terrell, age 84, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2018 at her home.

Rachel was born on April 18, 1934 to Joseph Elliott and Sallie Coleson Harrell in Ahoskie, NC. She was a dedicated member of Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. She loved her church family and took every opportunity to be with them to worship and fellowship up until the last couple of weeks her health prevented it. Rachel loved to cook, especially bake. She taught cake decorating at Roanoke-Chowan Community College and took great pride in making brides their perfect wedding cake. Rachel was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister that will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Iris Powell and Edith Bess.

Rachel is survived by, two daughters, Leah Horton and husband Joey of Aulander, and Lisa Davis of Ahoskie; three sons, Calvin Byrd and wife Debbie of Chase City, VA, Richard Byrd and wife Marie of Ahoskie, and Harold Byrd and wife Joyce of Corapeake; a brother, Bruce E. Harrell and wife Hilda of Raleigh, NC; several grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, and other times at the home.

A celebration of life funeral service was held on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at the Liberty Free Will Baptist Church, Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Troy Bordeaux, officiating. Burial followed at Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie, NC.
