MOREHEAD CITY, NC – Ray Overton Harrell Sr., 83, formerly of Murfreesboro, died Wednesday, June 13, 2018.
His funeral was a graveside service on Friday June 15 at Milwaukee Cemetery in Milwaukee, NC with the Rev. Tim Marriner officiating.
He was born July 26, 1934, to Johnnie and Mary Harrell Sr. of Hertford County. He has a son by the name of Ray Overton Harrell Jr. and a daughter by the name of Dr. Karen Lynn Harrell-Tosto. He was known to his family as “Big Daddy.”
After a rewarding career as an Instrumentation Technician with Union Camp Paper Company, he retired and spent his days relaxing in Murfreesboro, NC and moved to Morehead City, NC to be near his children.
With a loving and caring heart to all who ever met him, he crossed the great river to be with the family that has gone on before him early Wednesday morning, June 13, 2018 at 2:37 a.m.
He is preceded in death by his two parents and four siblings.
He is survived by his two children, Ray Harrell Jr. and wife Beverly Harrell of Atlantic Beach, and Dr. Karen Harrell-Tosto of Morehead City. Ray Harrell Sr. or “Big Daddy” has eight grandchildren: Brittany Harrell, Tripp Harrell, Brady Tosto, Evan Tosto, Courtney Giblin, Ryan Giblin, Billie Katheryn Hardesty, and Kameron Giblin. Also, he has four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Joseph and Kathleen Bryan Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at Duke Medical Center in Durham, NC.
