The filing period opened yesterday (Monday, June 11) for seats on local boards of Soil & Water Conservation District Supervisors, and for the Bertie County Board of Education. Soil & Water Conservation District Supervisors will be elected during the November 6 General Election. There are two seats open this election cycle in Bertie, Hertford, and Northampton counties. Those seats are currently occupied by:

Bertie: Robert Hoggard and James Pugh;

Hertford: James Mason and John David Simons; and

Northampton: Mark McGee and Gregory Harris.

The filing fee is $5.

Filing for Soil and Water Supervisor seats will end at 12 noon on July 6.

Bertie County has also opened filing for three of the five seats on the Board of Education. Those seats are currently occupied by incumbents Jo Johnson and Emma Johnson as well as Norman Cherry Sr. who was recently appointed to complete the current term of the late Barry McGlone.

The filing fee is $50. Filing ends at 12 noon on July 6.

The School Board election is Nov. 6.

Those wishing to file for the seats listed above can do so at their home county’s Board of Elections office.

Filing for three seats on the Hertford County Board of Education does not begin until July 6. That filing period ends Aug. 3.

The three Hertford County seats open during this election cycle are currently occupied by incumbents Dennis Deloatch, Dr. Joanne Jones, and Shelia Porter. The filing fee is $5.
