ROCKY MOUNT, NC – Janie Timberlake Sutton, 99, entered into the presence of the Lord on Monday, May 28, 2018.

Jesus Christ was the joy of Janie’s life because He was her life! She served Him faithfully for many years through her music, art, on the mission field, and in her local church through teaching Sunday School and leading many children’s and adult choirs. She loved the Lord, her family, and enjoyed gardening.

Janie was the daughter of Julian Picot and Kate Newsom Griffin. She was also preceded in death by husbands, William S. Timberlake and H. Lewis Sutton; sisters, Julia Smith and Agnes Dozier; and brothers, John and Glenn Griffin.

To cherish her memory she leaves three daughters: Jane Timberlake Burton of Auburndale, FL, Jean Timberlake Barnes (Luther) of Woodland, and Joy Timberlake Martin of Rocky Mount; son, William S. Timberlake, Jr. (Kae) of Marietta, GA; eight grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Janie’s life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, June 2 at Rocky Mount Bible Church, 5630 Dortches Blvd., Rocky Mount, NC 27804. The family will greet friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. The time of celebration and remembrance will conclude with a private burial in Woodland, NC.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Brekenridge Retirement Center for the care given to Janie over the past several years.
