Ruth P. Lassiter

AHOSKIE, NC – Ruth Perry Lassiter, age 85, passed away on May 18, 2018 at the Three Rivers Health & Rehabilitation Center of Windsor, NC.

Mrs. Lassiter was born in Harrellsville, Hertford County, NC, on July 31, 1932, a daughter of the late Edgar and Manzella Whitley Perry. Ruth worked for Rose’s Department Store for her entire career, first as a sales clerk and then as a Office Manager, until her retirement in 1982.  She enjoyed working with her hands, especially sewing, cross stitch and quilting. She enjoyed making candy and sharing it with family and friends; and for many years, sang at numerous churches and events with her late husband, Raymond Bell Lassiter, and with a quartet. Most of all, Ruth loved her family and enjoyed being around them, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren

Besides her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers, Charlie V. Perry, William E. Perry, and Thomas C. Perry; and her sisters, Lula P. Lowers, Virginia P. Burden, and Annie P. Phelps.

Left to cherish her memory is her two daughters, Brenda L. Newbern and husband, Caroll of Colerain, NC, and Gloria L. Nicholson of Ahoskie, NC; two grandsons, Caroll Newbern, Jr. and wife, Suzanne of Colerain, NC, and Travis Newbern and wife, Catherine of Greenville, NC; three great grandsons, Coleton Newbern, Tanner Newbern, and Perry Newbern; and a great granddaughter, Sarah Newbern. Also surviving is a sister, Dianne Futrell and husband, Robert of Murfreesboro, NC; and a brother, J. Henry Perry and wife, Helen of Jacksonville, FL.

The family will receive friends at the home.

A celebration of life service was held on Monday, May 21, 2018 at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie Chapel, with Rev. Dr. Jesse J. Croom, officiating.  Burial followed in Highland Memorial Gardens.
