NORTH CHESTERFIELD, VA – Jimmie Lee Bryan, 68, who grew up in Rich Square, NC, transitioned peacefully into eternal rest April 14, 2018 following a brief illness.
Born in Augusta, Georgia, Jimmie was predeceased in death by his grandparents Arthur R. and Lizzie Brickel of Winton, NC, and William Rufus and Nora Matthews Bryan of Gates, NC; parents, SFC George Allen and Virginia Lee Bryan; and three brothers: George Bryant Jr., Joe “Peter” Bryant, and Preston Bryan.
Jimmie was a graduate of the class of 1968 at Northampton County High School in Conway, NC, and Roanoke-Chowan Community College in Ahoskie. Jimmie was a laborer by choice, and that love of working with his hands continued into retirement. His favorite hobbies included woodworking and gardening, and he could often be found in his shed or outside if the weather was warm.
Jimmie is survived by the love of his life and life partner, Freda Atkins; daughter, Amy Bryan Phillips (Scott); son, Edward Allen Bryan; sisters, Marie B. Harrison (Wesley) and Nora Rawls (Sherwood); sister-in-law, Shirley Bryant; three grandchildren, Lillie Phillips, Laney Phillips, and Alexander Bryan; special “granddaughter” Bobbie Atkins (Skip); nieces, nephews; Freda’s family, whom he felt was his family, including her six children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, VA, who is handling the arrangements.
