Noreen Hannon named Volunteer of the Year by Roanoke Chowan Christian Women’s Job Corps

AHOSKIE – Noreen Hannon was awarded the distinction of Volunteer of the Year for the Roanoke Chowan Christian Women’s Job Corps at their annual Volunteer and Supporter banquet held April 7.

Hannon has been a volunteer and supporter since she moved to Ahoskie in 2014. She currently is a mentor and teaches life skills classes such as sewing, cooking, and crafts.

“She serves in so many ways, says Pat Byrd, Executive Director. “Noreen loves people and loves helping them. It is impossible to list all her skills and all that she adds to our program. She is loved by all.”

Roanoke Chowan Christian Women’s Job Corps helps women in need with job skills and life skill classes and helps with tuition and transportation to local area colleges.  The organization has helped over 150 women in Hertford, Bertie, Gates, and Northampton counties. Their goals are to help women improve their life and achieve their goals of education, self-esteem, and self, sufficiency. They are a Christian organization and work with others to help encourage and give a hand up to those who need one.

Hannon is also a member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, the Ahoskie Woman’s Club, the Ahoskie Kiwanis Club, and the Ahoskie Chamber Women. She is a wife, mother, and grandmother, and a wonderful community member.
