KELFORD, NC – Miss Lucy Lake Baker, age 85, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Vidant Roanoke- Chowan Hospital of Ahoskie, NC.
A native of Northampton County, Miss Baker was born on September 4, 1932 to the late Roy Neiceman and Mary Lucy Shoulars Baker in, Rich Square, North Carolina. Lake was one of fourteen children and upon graduating high school she went to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC where she retired after 35 years of service. She was a well-liked employee and developed many long-lasting friendships during her tenure.
Upon retiring, Lake returned to the family farm to be with her mother, and sisters in there waning years. She enjoyed taking and maintaining photos from a variety of things, especially family, farm, and vegetables. Lake will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
Along with her parents, Miss Baker was preceded in death by eight of her thirteen siblings; sisters, Alice Baker, Dorothy Baker, Beulah Baker White, Clara Baker Showalter, and Helen Baker Robbins; brothers, Frank, Edward, and Sam Baker, and niece, Shirley Harden.
Lake is survived by three sisters, Frances McCarthy, Faye Fulton and husband Arthur of Kelford, and Winford Williford and husband Kenneth; two brothers, Jerry Baker and wife Pat of Kelford, and Robert Earl Baker of Cobbs Creek, VA; two brothers-in-law, Ralph Showalter of South Carolina, and Carlton Robbins of Tennessee; and thirty-five nieces and nephews; Virgia Bordeaux, Kate Wolfe, Richard White, Rebecca Himelright, Linda Megill, Ethel White Mizelle, Judy White Briggs, Gary Showalter, Beverly Showalter, Cathleen and Steve Baker, Betty Trangalli, Debbie Baker, Daniel McCarthy, JoAnne McCarthy, Patricia Caldwell, Roy McCarthy, Joyce Kirksey, Betsy Myers, Barbara Wright, Gregory Robbins, Cindy Tinkham, Michael Baker, Deloris Wall, Rose Swink, Ken, David, and Roy Williford, Kathy Queen, Stanley and Rod Williford, Curtis and Roger Fulton, Wanda Drewry, and Sherry Spence. Also surviving are numerous great nieces and nephews, and numerous great great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Aulander, North Carolina, with the Rev. Mickey Willard officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.
