RICH SQUARE – Two suspects are being sought for breaking and entering, larceny, and property damage after a family-owned drug store was robbed here in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 10.
Rich Square Police Chief Altessie Taylor said Futrell Pharmacy, located on South Main Street, was broken into sometimes around 4 a.m. She said no money was taken, but the suspects did steal medication.
Taylor did not reveal the type or quantity of the stolen meds.
She reported that a surveillance camera on the premises showed two males outside the front entrance of the pharmacy.
“They kicked in the front window; one went inside while the other remained outside, apparently acting as a sentry,” Taylor said. “No alarm went off when the window was broken.”
The Police Chief added that the video did not reveal the identity of the two culprits.
“They were males, both dressed in dark clothing and dark shoes with hoodies hiding their faces,” Taylor noted. “They were also wearing gloves. We were unable to see exactly who they were due to their faces being hidden by the dark hoodies.”
Taylor added that it appeared the two suspects first attempted to enter the pharmacy through a back door.
“I found damage to a rear door at the building located next to the pharmacy,” she said. “With that I’m thinking they were attempting to enter the pharmacy that way, but wound up entering the wrong building since those two rear doors are located adjacent to one another.
“When that attempt failed, they went around to the main entrance and kicked in the front window of the pharmacy,” she added. “The one suspect that entered came out the same way.”
The adjacent building, formerly a doctor’s office, is currently not occupied, according to Taylor.
Taylor said anyone with information on the case can call the Rich Square Police Department at 252-539-2315 or the Northampton County Crime Stoppers hotline at 252-534-1110. The identity of those making calls will remain confidential.
