JACKSON – The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office remains actively involved as they continue to investigate a murder that occurred nearly one year ago.
It was May 2 of last year when the lifeless body of 24-year-old Shawte Williams was discovered in a field off Macon Price Road near Pleasant Hill. That field is located near the railroad crossing and intersection of US Highway 301.
“Shawte Williams’s tragic death has had a devastating effect on the small rural area of Northampton County and the surrounding communities,” stated Northampton Sheriff Jack Smith.
The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation began an investigation into the death of Williams. Both law enforcement agencies are actively investigating this case and following up on all leads.
Last month, Governor Roy Cooper approved and signed a document that posted a reward in the amount $5,000 for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Shawte Shaniqua Williams.
Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Northampton Co. Sheriff’s Office’s Crime Stoppers line (252-534-1110) or the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (919-662-4500). Sheriff Smith said all information provided, no matter how small or big, will be investigated and followed up on and remain confidential.
“I am requesting that anyone with any type of information to please call the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office or the State Bureau of Investigation. All information and tips provided will be confidential”. Any information will be of great aid in this investigation,” Smith said.
