JACKSON – Mary Elizabeth Strickland Duke, 83, died Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.

Mrs. Duke was born January 29, 1935 in Northampton County to the late John and Sarah Bridgers Strickland. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Duke was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond “Sonny” Duke, Sr. and her three brothers, John Strickland, Wilton Strickland, and Wingate Strickland.

Surviving are her children, Sue Duke Barnes and husband, Steve; Cheryl Duke Harper and husband, Eddie; Sandra Lassiter; and R.W. Duke and wife, Margaret; brother, Milton Strickland; and grandchildren, Jonathan Barnes and wife, Texie; Christy Thacker and husband, Neal and Tina Lassiter. Also surviving are her great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Thacker, Justice Thacker, David Thacker, Sarah Thacker, Jacob Barnes and Julie Barnes.

The family received friends at Askew Funeral Service – Jackson Chapel – in Jackson, NC on Friday, February 23, 2018. Randy Crowder will conduct a graveside service on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Futrell Family Cemetery.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Rehoboth United Methodist Church, PO Box 146, Jackson, NC 27845.
