SUFFOLK, VA – Thomas G. Byrd, 84, of the 3900 block of Breezeport Way in Suffolk, VA, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018 in his residence.

A native of Hertford County, NC, he was a retired storekeeper for Lipton Tea after 31 years and had also retired as a storekeeper from Wheelabrator after 21 years. He was a US Army veteran and enjoyed working in his yard and garden.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Shirley Ann Owens Byrd; two sons, William Terry and wife, Sherry, of Suffolk, VA and Troy Terry of Chesapeake, VA; a brother, Charles Judson Byrd and wife, Kay, of Ahoskie, NC; a grandchild, Mackenzie Terry; and four nieces, Melanie

Byrum, Jennifer Byrd, Lori Ann Todd and Amy Pierce, all of Ahoskie, NC and two great nieces and nephew.

A graveside service with Army honors will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, February 1, in the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery by Pastor Sandra Gurganus.

Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, is handling arrangements.
