JACKSON – A Roanoke Rapids man turned himself in to local law enforcement here Tuesday after learning he had felony indictments stemming from a September incident.

Maalik Raekwon Robinson, age 21, was jailed under a $30,000 bond on the charges of trafficking by delivery of heroin, trafficking by possession of heroin, possession with intent to sale and deliver heroin, sell of heroin, and maintaining a dwelling, vehicle or place to store a controlled substance.

The indictments against Robinson were based on an investigation conducted by the Down East Drug Task Force. Agent Mike Sledge of the Task Force said in a statement that Robinson is one of several who have arrests pending for the sale of heroin in Northampton, Hertford and Bertie counties.

Northampton County Sheriff Jack Smith commended Agent Sledge and other members of the Down East Drug Task Force and the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office for their hard work in combatting illegal narcotics in Northampton County.

“We will continue to work with other counties and local police departments,” Smith said. “This arrest is a prime example of what we can accomplish when all law enforcement agencies work as one.”
