Betty J. Hobbs

WOODLAND, NC – Betty Lurlene Jones Hobbs, age 81, passed away on January 25, 2018 at the Hampton Woods Health & Rehabilitation Center of Jackson, NC.

Mrs. Hobbs was born in Edgecombe County on October 4, 1936, a daughter of the late John and Fannie Meeks Jones. Betty was one who enjoyed working with her hands. She enjoyed doing many crafts and quilting and it has been said she could do anything with a needle and thread. She was owner and operator of Hobbs Fabric Shop for many years. Lurlene loved all animals, but especially loved her cats and dogs. She was an active member of Woodland Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.

Besides her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Ray Hobbs; and her sister, Zona Meeks Scott.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Betty Wray Hobbs Bridgers and husband, Tom of Scotland Neck, NC; two nephews, Travis Scott and wife, Sherry, of Robersonville, NC, and Tommy Scott and wife, Kathy, of Greenville, NC; and a special cousin, Barbara Hasty and husband, J.R. of Seaboard, NC.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 27, 2018 from 10:00 am until 10:45 am at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Rich Square, NC, prior to the celebration of life memorial service at 11:00 am in the chapel of Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service of Rich Square, NC, with Rev. Dr. J. Brabban officiating.
