COFIELD, NC – Carroll Wilson Mizelle, 62, of 1039 Thomas Bridge Road, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018 in his home where he was surrounded by his loving family.

Carroll was born June 26, 1955, and was the son of the late Thomas Carroll Mizelle, and Bertie and J.C. Matthews. A hard worker and perfectionist with tasks at hand, he loved to work on projects and took pride in his accomplishments. He could design and build anything he put his mind to, and was employed with Metal Tech of Murfreesboro when he became ill. Earlier in his career, he worked with Harrellsville Metal Works for 14 years as a welder, and then at Georgia Pacific in Ahoskie for 20 years where he retired as their maintenance supervisor. During these employments he acquired many friendships through the years.

A faithful man, when diagnosed with Stage Four Cancer, he knew God had a plan, and even through his illness, he was an inspiration to so many. A member and Deacon at Holly Springs Baptist Church, he had served as President of the church’s Brotherhood, and was active in many of its activities, especially when music was involved. As the church’s music director, he took pride in his musical talents and loved to sing for his Lord. He sang most of his life and was a drummer and singer with the Homesteaders Band for many years. When he joined Holly Springs Church in 2008, he discovered his love for gospel music and began to sing, perform, and record with other artists in the area. Other enjoyments were fishing, building projects, and spending time with his beloved family.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and great friend to those who knew him, in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only son, Chris Mizelle.

Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Barbara; three daughters, Angela Carroll, Bobbie Shaver, and Victoria Stroud; two brothers, Donnie Mizelle and wife Janet, and Robert Matthews and wife Kathy; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 21 at 3:00 p.m. in Holly Springs Baptist Church and will be conducted by Terry Stockman, Director of Missions, West Chowan Baptist Association. Entombment will be at a later date in the church cemetery.

Friends may join the family on Saturday, January 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and other times at the residence.
