Jane B. Jones

AHOSKIE, NC – Jane Arden Beale Jones, 88, passed away January 9, 2018 in Ahoskie.
Born July 2, 1929 in the small farming community of Branchville, VA to the late Rufus and Eva Overby Beale, her parents were respected farmers in the community and her father served as Mayor of Branchville for several years. She was a graduate of Boykins High School and attended Averett College where she majored in music and then studied Costume Design at Richmond Professional Institute. She put her knowledge of costumes to use working for the historic drama “The Common Glory”.
She married John Charles Jones, Sr. of Winton, NC on June 12, 1955. She taught elementary school in Waverly, VA and in Memphis, TN while John was attending Southern Optometric College. After settling in Ahoskie, Jane worked in her husband’s Optometric office.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 62 years, Dr. John Charles “Dink” Jones, Sr. and son, John Charles Jones, Jr. and his wife Jennifer; and two grandchildren, Christopher Beale Jones and Nicole Leigh Jones.
Jane was predeceased by a sister, Gloria Beale Sexton.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 15, 2018 in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, VA. The burial will follow at Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
