Benthall retires from Hertford County DSS

WINTON – The Hertford County Department of Social Services Board recognized Viola Benthall on December 5 with a plaque for her dedicated 37 years of service.

Benthall began her employment in 1980 with the Hertford County Department of Social Services as a Clerk Typist II, along with other job titles. She has been the agency’s Administrative Officer I for the last 11 years, where she supervised the agency’s budget and finances.

She was very passionate and committed to her position. Hertford County DSS truly appreciates her dedication and service.

Her favorite saying was, “We are a DSS team and we pull together to get the job done.”

Her retirement was effective December 31, 2017.

At the Dec. 5 gathering to honor her long years of service, Hertford County DSS staff and Board members thanked Benthall’s family for sharing her with the citizens of the county. They also said they would truly miss her presence in the office, and wished her a happy, relaxing, and enjoyable retirement.

Benthall has a son, Anthony Benthall and his wife, Linh; and three grandchildren, Joshua Benthall, and Jasmine and Jordan.

Benthall is the daughter of Rosetta Faison and the late Ernest Faison.
