WINTON, NC – Robert Thompson, 70, of Winton, NC passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at his residence.

Robert was born in Kelford, NC on January 15, 1947, son of the late Lester and Mary Frances Thompson. Robert retired from the United States Army National Guard and the United States Army Retired Reserve on January 31, 2001. He also retired from Northrop Grumman Shipyard in Newport News, VA after 35 years as a Sheet Metal Specialist.

He leaves to cherish a devoted and caring wife, Frances Thompson. Siblings are John Edward Thompson (Mary Louise) of Harrellsville, NC, Annie Mae Holley (Rudolph) of Ellicott City, MD, Bessie Byrd of Powellsville, NC and Flossie Smallwood of Windsor, NC. Children are Kimberly Sandfor (Howard) of Cofield, NC, Felicia Collier (Joe) of Aulander, NC and Delma Askew (John) of Harrellsville, NC; one brother in law, Joseph Twine (Lillie); nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Harrellsville, NC.

Viewing and visitation will be Friday, January 5, from 1 to 7 pm at Hunter’s Funeral Home –Ahoskie.
