Coleman named Teacher of the Year

WASHINGTON, DC – Tumeka Dembry Coleman, a native of Bertie County, has been named Teacher of the Year in Washington, DC Public Schools.

Coleman is the daughter of Ida and Jarvis Majette of Murfreesboro, and John and Helen Dembry of Lewiston.

She is a graduate of Bertie County Schools. She received two Bachelor degrees from NC A&T in Greensboro, and a Masters from Strayer University.

Coleman is a recipient of the Standing Ovation Excellence Award for DC Public Schools of 2017. She will be honored by Chancellor Antwan Wilson at the 2018 Standing Ovation Excellence Award Banquet held in Washington, DC in February 2018.

She attributes her success to her faith in God, supportive and loving parents, great teachers and leaders, and her wonderful husband.
