AHOSKIE, NC – Carolyn Forbes Sumner Goss, 87, of Ahoskie, NC passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017 in her home.

Carolyn was born in Herford County on December 26, 1929 to the late Grady Woodfin Sumner Sr. and Mary Gatling Sumner. She worked as a recovery room nurse at Roanoke Chowan Hospital and retired after 30 years. The traits required

by her career were evident in her personal life. Carolyn was a strong, witty, and determined woman that cared deeply about those in her life. Her independence and strong will served her well. In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her brother, Albert Sumner.

She is survived by her children, Gregory Goss of the home, Stephen Goss and fiancé Lee Merritt, and Pamela Craft and husband Billy Craft; grandchildren and spouses, Dr. Lee Ann Garner and John Dail Garner, and Megan Penny and Michael Penny; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Charlie, and Samantha Garner, Gatling and Lelia Penny; her siblings, Grady Sumner Jr. and wife, Sophia Sumner, Lil Lipsitz and husband, Lee Lipsitz, and Hersey Sumner, and many special nieces and nephews. We are going to miss you Nana, Toot-Toot.

A celebration of life graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
