WINTON – There will be a few new faces added to some familiar ones when boards/commissions appointed by Herford County leaders convene their upcoming meetings.

On Monday, the county’s board of commissioners were charged with the task of making appointments to the entities under their control. Many of the individuals serving on those boards/commissions were re-appointed based on their requests; however, there were a handful of new appointments.

In order, the county commissioners made appointments to the following boards:

Albemarle Regional Library Board of Trustees – Cynthia Askew (new appointment);

Choanoke Area Development Association – Lynn Johnson (re-appointment);

Hertford County ABC Board – Lonnie Simmons and Larry Holloman (both re-appointments);

Hertford County Economic Development Board – June Warren (re-appointment), William Askew and John Hinton (both new appointments);

Hertford County Library Board – Diana Nelson (new appointment);

Hertford County Planning Board – Dr. Terry Hall and F. Garry Lewter (both re-appointments), and Donald Kirkland (new appointment);

Hertford County Zoning Board of Adjustments –  Dr. Terry Hall and F. Garry Lewter (both re-appointments), and Donald Kirkland (new appointment);

Hertford County Joint Commission Advisory Board – Anthony Marra (new appointment);

Medical Services Transportation Advisory Council – Cynthia Deloatch (new appointment);

Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission – Cynthia Deloatch (new appointment); and

Veterans Advisory Council – John Hinton (new appointment).

There are positions still left unfilled on several boards due to a lack of the required number of applicants to fill those vacancies.

The Choanoke Area Development Association needs one other representative from Hertford County.

One position remains unfilled on the Joint Commission Advisory Board as well as on the Medical Services Transportation Advisory Council.

Two seats are vacant on both the Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission and the Veterans Advisory Council. As for the latter, Kirkland, who attended Monday’s meeting, was asked if he was interested in filling one of those vacancies. Kirkland, a military veteran, said he would apply.

There is one vacant spot on the Hertford County Agricultural District Advisory Board. No applications (existing member or new) were received.

Hertford County citizens wishing to serve on any of these boards can contact the County Manager’s office (252-358-7805). They are required to fill out an application, which is put before the board of commissioners for their approval.
