‘Heroes’ sought

Who is your hero?
By definition, a hero is an individual (or a group) that demonstrates great courage or admired for their achievements and noble qualities.
They can be from any walk of life, gender, race or age.
While the majority will hail a hero as one who places their life on the line to save another, that can indeed be the case, but not limited to that single definition.
We typically think of a hero as a brave man or woman in military uniform, a law enforcement officer, firefighter, or Emergency Medical Technician running towards danger rather than retreating. They can also be a doctor or a nurse, applying their skills to a life-or-death situation.
However, heroes can be much broader in nature. They can be a person or group that volunteers their time and effort to make their community a better place to live. They can be a life-long schoolteacher, church official, or an adult coach involved in youth athletics. They can be a young person who believe in the power of human spirit and freely chooses to help their family, friends or neighbors.
These are just a few examples of a hero.
In February of 2018, Roanoke-Chowan Publications will publish its annual Crossroads edition. This year’s theme is ‘Heroes At Large.”
