Walther featured at Vet Day

AHOSKIE – MSG David Walther will be the featured speaker at the Veterans Day ceremony hosted by American Legion Hertford County Post 102 on Saturday, Nov. 11.

The event will begin at 11 a.m. at No Man’s Land Park, located on Ahoskie’s Main Street at the rail crossing.

Following a lunch for military veterans, hosted by Ahoskie United Methodist Church, a Veterans Day parade will be held at 2 p.m. on Main Street.

MSG Walther was born and raised in Gates County. He joined the US Army in April of 1999.

MSG Walther attended Basic Training at Fort Benning, GA and his Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon, GA to become a Signal Support System Specialist.

MSG Walther’s assignments consist of 6/37 Field Artillery at Camp Stanley, Korea from Jan. 2000-Jan. 2001; 1/160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) from Feb. 2001-Oct. 2007; United States Special Operations Recruiting Command from Oct. 2007-Jan. 2011; 2/160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) from Jan. 2011-Jan. 2012; 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) from Jan. 2012-May 2016, all at Fort Campbell, KY where he has served in all positions from a Specialist to a MSG where he left as the Regimental Communications Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge.

In May 2016, MSG Walther moved to Fort Bragg, NC where he currently serves as the Communications Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge in the United States Special Operations Aviation Command.

MSG Walther has multiple deployments, to include Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. His highest military award is the Meritorious Service Medal.

His military education includes Enlisted Combat Skills, Airborne School, Survival-Evasion-Resistance-and Escape (SERE) School, Basic Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Army Recruiter School, and Senior Leaders Course.

MSG Walther is married to the former Glenda Burkett of Ahoskie and has three daughters: Mackenzie (12 years old), and Madison and McKenna (7 years old).
