MURFREESBORO – The Roy D. Sr. and Yvonne Flood Endowment Fund Fundraiser Luncheon will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Nebo Baptist Church, located on US 258 South, Murfreesboro.
The event will serve as an effort by the Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center in hopes of raising money to establish an endowment primarily to provide education for local students and medical care for needful community members.
Luncheon tickets are $25 per person. RSVP with Erin Storie at (252) 332-3548 ext. 7129 or estorie@rcchc.org. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door.
Dr. Flood was born in Cofield, and married Yvonne in 1961. The couple had three children: Dr. Roy Jr., Geoffrey and Stacey Flood.
Roy Sr. attended Calvin Scott Brown High School, NC A&T and Howard University (where he received his MD). He practiced medicine in Murfreesboro, including at RCCHC, from 1968-1997, and also worked as Chief of Staff for Roanoke Chowan Hospital from 1978 – 1980.
RCCHC’s Dr. Charles Sawyer worked with Flood at that time.
“Dr. Flood and I practiced many hours together in the hospital. He was always a wonderful, very skilled physician and not only that but a dedicated gentleman,” noted Dr. Sawyer.
Dr. Flood provided medical care to anyone, regardless of their ability to pay, and because of that many of his patients received care they may not otherwise have gotten.
Dr. Flood and his wife were both active in the community and participated in and made donations to many civic organizations, including their home church, First Baptist Church of Murfreesboro.
