JACKSONVILLE, NC – Grace W. Layton, 85, died peacefully with her husband and children by her side on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at her home. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, October 3 at 11:00 am at Onslow Memorial Park.

A native of Bertie County, she along with her husband, John T. Layton, were the owners/operators of Layton Nursery on Hwy. 53.

Her brothers, Joseph and Jarvis White, along with her sisters, Blanche W. Houghson, Florence W. Overton and Clara V. White all precede her in death.

Along with her husband, Grace is also survived by two daughters, Valarie Smith of Jacksonville, Lea Watson of Concord; son, Stephen Layton of Jacksonville; and five grandchildren, Rachael E. Sanders, Michael S. Layton, C. Taylor Layton, Natalie B. Watson and Nicholas Watson.
