POWELLSVILLE, NC – Cater Dorsey “C.D.” Hoggard, Jr., age 92, died Saturday, September 30, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.
C.D. was born in Bertie County on November 10, 1924 to the late C.D. Hoggard, Sr. and Olia Harris Hoggard. He graduated from Powellsville High School and then worked in the shipyard in Newport News, Virginia. He was drafted into the United States Army at the end of the World War II and was sent to the Philippine Islands.
C.D. was married to Annie Harrell Hoggard for 64 years. He worked for Thorton Furniture, later bought out by Heilig Meyers until he retired with thirty years of service.
C.D. loved his community, serving as Mayor and a fireman. He loved his church where he served as a deacon and the superintendent. There was no place he loved more than “home”.
C.D. is preceded in death by his wife; one sister, Mabel Hoggard Dilday; three brothers, Vernon, Lynwood, and Willie Alton Hoggard; and his son-in-law, Ken James.
He is survived by his two daughters, Charlotte James of Rocky Mount, NC, and Jennifer Sehon and her husband, Jerry of Raleigh, NC; three grandchildren, Mike James, Julie James, and Laura Griffith and her husband, Logan; and five great grandchildren, Gracie, Colby, Ramsey, Reese, and Jordan.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Powellsville Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Hopkins officiating the service. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service. The burial will be at Stoney Creek Cemetery.
