WINDSOR – Bertie County Sheriff John Holley said his office is seeking the public’s assistance in the whereabouts of a suspect who allegedly robbed a sweepstakes business here on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

According to Holley, at approximately 2:42 pm, Sheriff’s units were dispatched to the 101Business Center located on US Highway 13-17 South in Windsor in reference to an armed robbery.

Eyewitnesses at the scene told deputies that a black male came into the sweepstakes business, pulled a gun on a worker, and demanded the worker give him all the money.

Through the BCSO investigation, Holley stated they were able to obtain warrants on Tyquan Jaquavious Lee for felony robbery with a dangerous weapon and misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.

The suspect is listed as a 19-year-old black male, 5’11” in height, weighing 160 pounds with brown eyes and a short black dreadlocks hairstyle.

He was last seen fleeing on foot towards a wooded area along Tarheel Lane, located off US 13-17. A K-9 unit from Martin County arrived shortly thereafter and assisted in the search.

Holley said Lee is considered to be armed and dangerous.

The Sheriff added if anyone knows Lee’s whereabouts they are advised to contact the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office at 252-794-5330.

Lee is no stranger to local law enforcement. He was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon in April of 2015 in Martin County. For that crime, he was given 30-month jail sentence, that was suspended in lieu of probation, according to information posted on the North Carolina Department of Public Safety’s website.
