AHOSKIE – Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital and the Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce are co-sponsoring an ‘Afternoon Tea and Discussion’ on advance care planning – the ‘most important conversation we are not having’ from 3-4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28 at the Garrett House in Ahoskie.

“We hope community members will come and enjoy a cup of tea while they learn about ways to make their wishes known before end of life,” states Ellie Ward, BSN, RN, community health educator for Vidant Health, who will lead the discussion. “It is crucial to take action ahead of time to specify how you want to be cared for during your final days. It is especially valuable if you are ever a victim of a serious injury or illness, even temporarily.”

It’s a ‘difficult conversation’, but the hosts promise to make it as ‘pleasant as possible’ with an elegant tea service, including sweet and savory items.

Legal, healthcare, and faith perspectives will be part of the informal discussion. Notary and witnesses will be available to help you complete Healthcare Power of Attorney and Living Will documents. A photo ID is required to complete the documents.

The event is free and open to the public, however pre-registration is encouraged by calling 1-855-MYVIDANT.

The Garrett House is located at 310 South Catherine Creek Road in Ahoskie.
