George B. Parker

ADVANCE, NC – Mr. George “Buck” Bernard Parker, 89, formerly of Ahoskie, NC, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Trinity Elms in Clemmons, NC.

Buck was born July 17, 1928 in Hertford County to the late Cora E. Beverly Parker and Lloyd J. Parker. He graduated from Murfreesboro High School in 1945 and then Kings Business College. He helped open and worked with Roanoke Chowan Hospital for four years.  He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

Buck retired from W.H. Basnight & Co after 32 years of service and then worked for AFLAC for 19 years as an Associate and District

Manager. He was a former member of the Ahoskie Masonic Lodge and more recently a member of the Snow Lodge in Boone, NC.

Buck married Barbara White Jones on June 20, 1953 at Mars Hill Baptist Church. They were happily married for 63 1/2 years and enjoyed raising two daughters in Ahoskie, NC for 37 years, retired to Blowing Rock, NC, for 16 years and spent the past 11 years in Advance, NC.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, and also two brothers, Alton Parker and Joseph Parker, and three sisters, Mary Ellen Allen, Vivian Futrell, and Joyce Massengill.

Surviving are two daughters, Dawn Copeland and husband William of Birmingham, AL and Terri Jones and husband Bill of Clemmons; and five grandchildren, Laurie Cavendish and husband Brandon, Rebecca Copeland, Kristen Jones, Bradley Jones and Michael Jones. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Marion Parker of Woodruff, SC and Libby Etheridge of Chesapeake, VA; and brothers-in-law, Wayland Jones, Jr. and wife Ellen, and Billy Jones and wife Beth of Colerain, NC.

Buck was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church in Clemmons, NC. A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie, NC.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home – Kinderton Chapel – in Advance, NC.
