GATES – A 16-year-old student at Ahoskie Christian School tragically lost his life near here Sunday night in an auto accident near his home in Gates County.

Alexander Michael “Alex” Parsain of Paige Riddick Road, Gates, died as the result of injuries received in the accident, according to a report filed by North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper A.S. Genao.

The accident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. on Johnny Harrell Road, approximately four-tenths of one mile southeast of that road’s intersection with NC 37.

In his report, Genao said Parsain was operating a 2008 GMC truck on Johnny Harrell Road. There, the truck traveled off the right side of the road, and then came back onto the pavement where the driver apparently overcorrected. That caused the vehicle to lose control and travel back off the roadway, again to the right.

The truck then impacted a ditch and overturned.

Parsain, who was alone in the vehicle, was not wearing a seat belt, as noted in Genao’s report.

In addition to the Highway Patrol, other emergency responders dispatched to the scene included Gates County Rescue and EMS, and the Gates Volunteer Fire Department.

The fatal accident was the 13th of the year (the second in Gates County) within the Highway Patrol’s Troop A / District II area.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow (Friday) at Ahoskie Free Will Baptist Church.
