MURFREESBORO, NC – William Goodman Lawrence, 87, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin, VA.

William was born on January 19, 1930 in Como, NC to the late W.G. Lawrence, Sr. and Cornelia Pierce Lawrence. He was a graduate of Mars Hill University and UNC at Chapel Hill. William worked for over 40 years and retired as General Manager of Georgia Pacific American Timber Products Division in Murfreesboro. William served as a Life Trustee at Mars Hill University and was also actively involved in the Murfreesboro Rotary Club and the Como Ruritan Club. He was instrumental in various civic activities and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rose Rummage Lawrence.

He is survived by his son, William Goodman Lawrence, III and wife Angie of Eden; two grandchildren, Josh Lawrence and Pierce Lawrence; his special friend, Aldeen Gatewood of Murfreesboro; and many cousins.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the Garrett-Sykes Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at the Murfreesboro Baptist Church. The Reverend Doctor J Brabban will be presiding.
