SUNBURY – Doris Jean Johnston Riddick, 75, of 144 Bosley Road, Sunbury, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, VA.

Mrs. Riddick was born in Gates County on November 7, 1941, and was the daughter of the late Walter Glenn and Minnie Virginia Bunch Johnston. A homemaker, she had also worked as a bus driver in the Gates County Public School System, with her family in the operation of the County Market, and had assisted her daughter with her Accounting business. A member of Damascus Christian Church, she also enjoyed membership in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Walter and David Johnston.

Surviving are her husband of nearly 54 years, Fred Riddick; her daughter, Michelle Sawyer and husband Bill; her son, Fred Norman Riddick, Jr. and wife Lisa; her sister, Mary Belle Riddick; and three grandchildren, Caitlin Sawyer, Everett Sawyer, and Meghan Riddick, all of Sunbury.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 26 at 2:00 p.m. in Damascus Christian Church and will be conducted by the Revs. Mark Wethington and Wayne Gardner. A private burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may join the family on Friday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and all other times at Michelle and Bill’s home, 372 Sugar Run Road, Sunbury.
