AHOSKIE, NC – Irene Hoggard Lassiter Bryant, age 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Bryant was born on June 29, 1925 to the late Roy and Atha Hoggard. She was married to Cleophus “Okey” Lassiter and to this marriage was born four children. Upon his death, she later married Johnny Bryant of Pendleton, NC.

Irene worked as a Nursing Assistant for Roanoke Chowan Hospital for a number of years in addition to various other employment. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and loved working in her flowers. Mrs. Bryant loved her family and friends dearly and will be truly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her mother, father and husbands, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Lucille Bland and Joyce Byrum; and her brothers, James, Steve and Walter Hoggard.

Irene is survived by her son, Robert Louis Lassiter, Sr. of Ahoskie, NC; three daughters, Shirley Lassiter Speight and her husband Tommy of Gates, NC, Patricia Lassiter West Herrin of Ahoskie, NC and Vivian Lassiter Whitehurst and her husband Cecil of Suffolk, VA; three sisters, Betty Ruth Cloe of Woodland, NC, Patsy Conner and her husband Eddie of Windsor, NC and Gail Harris and her husband Richard of Colerain, NC; three grandsons, Robert Louis “Robbie” Lassiter, Jr. and his wife Katherine of Sharpsburg, GA, David Lee West, Jr. of Lake Lure, NC and Christopher Michael Bryan Herrin and his wife Meghan of Ahoskie, NC; and six granddaughters, Laura Ellen Speight Groh of Gates, NC, Christine Louise Speight of Surfside Beach, SC, Tracie Irene West Seymour and her husband Tim of Ayden, NC, Dawn Marie West-Ligas of Morehead City, NC, Tammy Sadler Potter and her husband Mark of Chesapeake, VA and Angela Sadler Adams of Portsmouth, VA. Also surviving are thirteen great-grandchildren, John Robert, Siera, and Madison Lassiter, Allison, Robert, Dylan, and Corey Groh, Austin Denno, Jessica Seymour, Ryan and Kelcie Potter, Brittany Collier, and Tayler Bacalis, and four great great-grandchildren, Ridley Lassiter, Ashton Potter, Uriah Gillis, and Alijah Bacalis.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 7:00 until 8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service of Ahoskie, NC.

A celebration of life service will be conducted on Friday, August 25, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service with the Rev. Tom Potter officiating. Burial will follow at Ahoskie Cemetery.
